From the Buffalo News:
A new stairway will descend into the Niagara Gorge from a scenic overlook near the Whirlpool Rapids Bridge under a plan to enhance trails and viewpoints at three points in Niagara Falls and Lewiston.
The new stairs will descend about 300 feet to a second overlook above the lower Niagara River, said Edward Alkiewicz, licensing manager for the New York Power Authority.
“The main focus and feature of this project is to have another spot in the gorge where people can relatively easily — because of the construction of a new trail and stair system—get into the bottom of the gorge,” said Albert J. Nihill, associate landscape architect for the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

From WGRZ Channel 2 in Buffalo:
Ice skaters, sharpen your skates. The DeVeaux Ice Rink is now open.
The rink, located at DeVeaux Woods State Park, was expected to open last month but was delayed so the park could acquire the necessary ice-making equipment.
The lighted facility will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., weather permitting. According to Parks spokesperson Angela Berti, the rink is free and open to the public.

City tourism officials expressed support on Monday for a tentative plan to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the opening of Niagara Falls State Park with a July parade through the downtown area.
Members of the Niagara Falls Tourism Advisory Board endorsed the concept of the city celebration parade, which is being developed in cooperation with state parks by Peach Festival parade organizer and former A Festival of Lights CEO Jerry Wolfgang.
