Falls family has America’s funniest video

Posted on January 22nd, 2010 in Uncategorized | No Comments »

From the Welland Tribune:

Call it the $10,000 scream.

As seven-year-old Kieran Atkinson prepared for a trip on the Sky Screamer ride at Marineland last August, she wasn’t happy. With dad Tim zooming in with his video camera, she went to say, “I don’t like this ride.” But before she could finish, the thrill ride sent her 320 feet in the air.

As dad kept filming, her voice trailed off into the sky.

Tim and his wife, Anne Marie, thought the 15-second clip was amusing, but it was Anne Marie’s sister-in-law, Susan Creen, who prompted the Niagara Falls couple to submit it to ABC’s long-running show, America’s Funniest Videos.

From there, things happened fast.

As Chuck mentioned

From Buffalo Business First:

Margaritaville Canada Ltd. has signed a lease with the owners of the Skylon Tower to open the 14,000-square-foot, two-story restaurant on Fallsview Avenue, across from the Niagara Fallsview Casino and Resort.

Margaritaville is scheduled to open by late spring or early summer, said George Davidson, Margaritaville Canada president and chief executive officer.

The restaurant is moving into the site of the former Wolfgang Puck’s Cafe, which closed last summer.

Rink revival

Posted on January 21st, 2010 in 2069 | No Comments »

From the Niagara Gazette:

The recent record snowfalls and frigid temperatures have delayed the installation of a free outdoor ice skating rink, set to open in DeVeaux Woods State Park.

New York State Park spokesperson Angela Berti said workers removed more than 18 inches of snow Wednesday in an effort to refill the rink with water to create a safe skating surface.

“We expect the rink to be open early next week,” Berti said. “We want this to become a community ice rink and we think it’s something that everyone is extremely excited for.”

In October, the City Council announced a partnership with State Parks by agreeing to contribute $20,000 in casino revenues to transform the park’s former tennis courts into the city’s first outdoor ice skating rink since the closing of Lackey Plaza in 2003.

Mayor Paul Dyster said the city and State Parks have done a good job of not allowing the project to fall through the cracks and expects the rink to be ready for skaters by Monday.
